Enjoy this unique straw bale and timber frame construction, situated on a three acre property only minutes outside the beautiful mountain town of Fernie, British Columbia, Canada. This is not your typical “ Mountain Modern” home!
Enjoy the cozy cabin feel in a home filled with local artwork done by amazingly talented Kootenay craftspeople. The straw bale construction keeps the home cool in the summer and cozy warm in the winter. The large property gives you access to endless hiking, snowshoeing, snowbiking, and biking trails right out your back door. Amazing skiing, golfing and fly fishing are all only ten minutes away. The large back deck with bbq has beautiful mountain views where you can watch the sun set behind the mountain ranges and see the sky turn spectacular colors. There is also a fire pit in the back yard.
The house has two bedrooms on the upper level with a bathroom, and one bedroom on the lower level with a bathroom. The main floor is the living/dining/kitchen area with a half bath.
Fernie is a stunning mountain town with tons of character, unique shopping, and a foodies paradise! We have award winning chefs in this town serving up everything from Nepalese, South American, Japanese, Mexican, Thai and Indian, just to name a few. Fernie Brewing Company, an award winning brew pub, is located within walking distance of our home.
This town is best known for the world class downhill skiing it offers at Fernie Alpine Resort. This resort is regularly included in top ten lists of resorts around North America and the world. The hill receives over 12 feet of snow annually,most of it in the form of powder!!
Equally impressive are the summertime opportunities in Fernie, which include mountain biking at the ski hill or on the endless trail networks around the area, and hiking the beautiful surrounding mountains. The Elk River is world renowned for fly fishing . There are also whitewater rafting and gorgeous river floating opportunities. Beach fun on the beautiful Lake Koocanusa is only 30 minutes away.
