1 Bedroom Cottage in Fanny Bay
Our cozy cottage is a 1 bedroom, 600 square foot two level dwelling. There is a large bedroom downstairs with a queen sized bed and antique furnishings and a sliding door out to the covered patio.
Upstairs is open living area with vaulted ceilings, loads of windows and a sliding door onto deck. Living space features comfortable leather chairs, dining table for four and TV room with a love seat. There is a 32" TV with DVD/VHS player and lots of dvd's and cd's for your use and basic cable as well. There is Wireless Internet provided as well. The kitchen is compact and efficient and comes equipped with 4 burner stove, a toaster oven, mid size fridge/freezer and quality equipment. This includes stoneware dishes, pottery salad bowls, 12 cup coffee maker with metal reusable filter and toaster. Note there is not an oven but we do have a propane BBQ on the deck for your use. The totally redone bathroom has toilet, sink and shower.
The cottage is about 30 meters from the walk on beach and shares the property with the owners. You have own access to the beachfront and a lovely private deck right next to a massive fir tree just a few meters from the water. The property is surrounded by ancient fir and maple trees and is host to an abundance of bird life including eagles, herons, ravens, kingfishers - and dozens of other species. Out front is a walk on sandy/gravel beach with a westerly exposure. The sunsets here are awesome. In the afternoon when the tide comes in over the exposed beach, the water temperatures become very warm and so the swimming here is excellent. The area is excellent for canoeing and kayaking as the waters are generally well protected. There is always a good chance of a seal or sea lion coming up close to check you out. The locals, i.e. first nations, summered here for a couple thousand years for a reason - abundant sea life, great exposure and stunning views.
The cottage is close to several world class mountain bike trails, including Cumberland, Hornby Island and Mt Washington. As well there are many great places to go lake or river fishing and in the fall the area is famous for salmon fishing right from the beach.
We are only a 35-40 minute drive to the ski lifts at Mt Washington.The cross country and downhill skiing and boarding is excellent with some of the biggest snow packs in Canada. Fall and Winter here is amazing with hundreds of birds who feed here in the bay and the sea lions come back in huge numbers until spring. They can be seen feeding and playing right out front of us.
Spend a day on the mountain, and then relax at the beach in the evening.
